qāf dāl rā
qudira (verb) = predestined, restricted
qadaran (masculine noun) = a decree
taqdīru = determination, decree
l-qadīru = the All Capable, the All Powerful
l-qadri (masculine noun) = (of) Power
Surah ‘Ali `Imran 26 :
quli l-lahuma mālika l-mul’ki tu’tī l-mul’ka man tashāu watanzi’u l’mul’ka mimman tashāu
Say, “O Allah, Owner of the Dominion, You give the Dominion to whom You will, and You take away the Dominion from whom You will
watu’izzu man tashāu watudhillu man tashāu biyadika l-khayru
and You honor whom You will, and You humiliate whom You will, in Your hand is all the good
innaka ʿalā kulli shayin qadirun
indeed You are (on everything) All Powerful (All Capable)
Surah Al-Furqan 2 :
alladhī lahu mul’ku l-samāwāti wal-ardi walam yattakhidh waladan walam yakun lahu sharīkun fī l-mul’ki
He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth: no son has He begotten, nor has He a partner in His dominion
wakhalaqa kulla shayin faqaddarahu taqdiran
It is He who created all things and determined it with [precise] determination.
Surah Al-‘Ahzab 38 :
mā kāna ʿalā l-nabiyi min fīmā harajin fima farada l-lahu lahu
There is not to be upon the Prophet any discomfort concerning that which Allah has imposed upon him.
sunnata l-lahi fī alladhīna khalaw min qablu wakāna amru l-lahi qadaran maqdūran
[This is] the established way of Allah with those [prophets] who have passed on before, and ever is the command of Allah a decree determined.
Surah Al-Qamar 49-51 :
innā kulla shayin khalaqnāhu biqadarin
Indeed, We created all things with predestination
wamā amrunā illā wāḥidatun kalamḥin bil-baṣari
And Our commandment is but one, as the twinkling of an eye
walaqad ahlaknā ashyāʿakum fahal min muddakirin
And certainly We have destroyed the likes of you, then is there any who will recollect?
lām yā lām
al-laylu, al-layla, al-layli (masculine noun) = the night
laylatu, laylati (feminine noun) = the night
Surah Al-Qadr 1-5 :
innā anzalnāhu fī laylati l-qadri
Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree (Power)
wamā adrāka mā laylatu l-qadri
And what can make you comprehend what is the Night of Decree (Power)?
laylatu l-qadri khayrun min alfi shahrin
The Night of Decree (Power) is better than a thousand months.
tanazzalu l-malāikatu wal-rūḥu fīhā bi-idh’ni rabbihim min kulli amrin
The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter
salāmun hiya ḥattā maṭlaʿi l-fajri
Peace it is until the emergence of dawn
