Ar-rahman, Ar-rahim

Surah Al-Fatihah

Bis’mi   l-lahi   l-raḥmāni   l-raḥīmi
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

al-hamdu lillahi rabbi l-ʿālamīna
All praises be to Allah, Lord of the worlds

al-raḥmāni l-raḥīmi
the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

māliki yawmi l-dīni
Master (Sovereign) of the Day of Judgement

iyyāka na’budu wa-iyyāka nastaʿīnu
You alone we worship, and in You alone we seek refuge

ih’dinā l-ṣirāṭa l-mus’taqīma
Guide us to the straight path

ṣirāṭa alladhīna an’amta ‘alayhim ghayri l-maghḍūbi ʿalayhim walā l-ḍālīna
The path of those whom You have favored, not of those who have earned Your wrath, and not of those who have gone astray

l-fathu, l-fathi (masculine noun) = the decision, the victory
l-fātiḥīna (active participle, plural) = those who decide
fataḥnā = We opened, We have given victory
l-fātihah = the opening
